Projects : Evaluation of Data Compression's effect on battery functionality Time in Mobile Value Added Services

Because of limited energy capacity of batteries Energy consumption In location based services is very important. These services should operate for a long time and should not lead to an empty battery. In this project we study the effect of data compression on energy consumption before sending the data through wifi. We considered a collection of different files and measured the energy consumption and time of sending these files by wifi, with and without compression. Conclusions show that compression for files with a compression ratio higher than 2.4 lead to less energy consumption.
